Fiberhome GCOB Overview
The GCOB C+ is an 16-port GPON OLT interface board, which can be used in the Fiberhome AN5516 serie OLT: AN5516-04, AN5516-06, AN5116-06B/AN5516-01. It works with the optical network terminal (ONT) to provide GPON access service. Also, it can work with some optical network unit (ONU) or MxU to provide GE/FE Ethernet service. This board comes with C+ class SFP, but you can choose with Gpon SFP B+ or C++. If comes with B+, supports ONT/ONU access of up to 1024 subscribers. if comes with C+/C++, supports ONT/ONU access of up to 2048 subscribers. The GCOB card has two version: T1A and S1B. S1B is the mainstream version of the market, and the T1A can only be used in the latest chassis.
Product Features
- High Port Density: 16 GPON service interfaces per card.
- High Split Ratio: Supports up to 1:128 split ratio for efficient fiber usage.
- Power Efficiency: Features a lower power GPON MAC chip, reducing consumption by about 30%.
- Advanced Traffic Management: Includes 1024 queues and 356 schedulers, plus WRED/RED algorithms for QoS.
- ONU Power Saving: Manages ONU power saving as per G.987.3 standards.
- Precise Timing: Receives and distributes 1PPS+TOD signals to ONUs.
Application Scenarios
1. Urban FTTH Multi-Service Deployment in Spain
A Spanish telecom integrated Fiberhome GCOB Boards into AN5516-06 OLTs for dense residential areas in Barcelona. The 16-port GPON card’s 1:128 splitting ratio efficiently served 2,000+ households, delivering triple-play services (VoIP, IPTV, gigabit data). Equipped with C+ SFP modules, it supported 20km transmission, covering urban and suburban extensions. Compliance with ITU-T G.987.3 enabled ONU power-saving management, reducing operational costs. Its 4096 GEM ports per PON port handled bandwidth-intensive 4K streaming, aligning with the operator’s goal of upgrading legacy networks to high-speed fiber access.
2. Rural & Enterprise Convergence in Indonesia
An Indonesian ISP adopted GCOB Boards for AN5516-04 OLTs in rural Java and small business parks. The board’s compatibility with B+/C+/C++ modules adapted to diverse coverage needs—10km for villages and 20km for enterprise backhaul. With 1024 T-CONTs per port, it prioritized traffic for small-office cloud applications and residential streaming. Low power consumption (≤50W) and 16.74-year MTBF ensured reliability in remote areas with limited maintenance. Dual-board redundancy in key locations minimized downtime, making it a cost-effective solution for mixed low-density access scenarios.
